Alternate realities at work

So yesterde I got up fairly early, got ready, drove to the Wick to return the DVD and then went to the city to pick up the barista Paul. He was a bit younger than I thought, and more friendly than I expected. We were a bit confused at first as to how to get onto the bridge, especially since the entrance I had planned on was closed, but we made it eventually and it was a pretty basic drive up there.

We talked a bit about our career background, but we mainly talked about the whole Melbourne Storm fiasco. Towards the end of the drive I started worrying about whether we'd get there in time, so I sped a little, not sure if he noticed or not, but he didn't say anything. Powerful car by the way, very powerful.

We got there at a little after 9am, and the car park we had driven into was opening at 9:15am, so he got out of the car and went to the court first. When the car park opened, I figured that I had enough time to get some petrol, so I did, and then parked back there again and strolled to the court. I saw Livak standing there and I waved to her. She asked me if I had the suitcases.

Shit!

I quickly ran back to the car to get them, lol. I bet you she thinks I'm such an idiot, lol.

When we got to court, it was interesting for me to be in a new place as I looked around everywhere. I sat there while Livak unpacked her files and Paul spoke to the defence. When the mag came on I noticed how young she looked, and also how familiar she looked. She was very attractive.

After Paul's mention, we talked about it as we walked out, and he told me her name and how she was with SLA before, and that's when it hit me: I must've seen her at SLA before!!

We had a coffee nearby (his shout) and then headed back to the car. As soon as we got onto the freeway there was a traffic jam, and we were stuck there for about 20 minutes, but after that everything was pretty flowy. He had a nap for most of the drive there, and I dropped him off in the city where I picked him up, then drove the car back to the office. Surprisingly, I managed to get it in and park it without scratching it.

When I got back to the office, I spent the next like half an hour trying to return the keys and talking to everyone who asked me how it went. I felt like some kind of a hero for some reason. I went to talk to Wendy first, and then Alanna. I told her about the mag, and how my goal was to be one, and she said "why not D court judge?" and I said it was good to be a mag, because if you make an error someone else will fix it up. This made her laugh, even though I didn't think it was that funny. She said she wanted to be a mag as well. I noticed some tablets on her desk and asked her if she was feeling ok, and she said she had a headache.

I went out for a run afterwards, went to the courts to ask about the courts that night and confirmed that they were open for shoot arounds. I ran back and bought some chicken for my lunch, and returned to the office, got changed and made my lunch. It was yummmmm, hehe.

I left work at about 5:30 to meet up with Jim and Bo for bball. As soon as I stepped into the courts, it was like I hadn't missed a beat, yet there was still something special for me. I walked past along the first court (where some bigger, more athletic guys were playing a full court game) only to see them standing around at the second court (where a bunch of smaller, mostly Asian guys, were playing half court games). We chatted a bit before one of the games stopped so we all converged on it to shoot around, and then a game was quickly organised.

I felt so...protected for my knee. I only wanted to do basic things and stay away from contact, but as time went by my confidence grew bit by bit. I hit a few jump shots from the outside, enough for one guy to make comments about it and stress to his team that I should be guarded, and then later tell me I had a beautiful shot. I appreciated the compliment, but was not used to it.

I did think about driving and trying to beat some guys off the dribble, but whenever I did I didn't have the confidence to go fast enough. Defence was hard, but that was because I was wearing my old shoes and they were slippery. I'd like to see how my knee fares with proper shoes on.

We played quite a few games, but at the end my legs cramped up and I had to walk off. I think they're just not used to all the jumping, shuffling and running. They'll come back.

I liked playing with Jim and Bo, I think I can get used to them. Jim's shot has improved, but he needs to be be within a short range. Bo seems to have this clunsy ability to get rebounds without jumping, and he's pretty chunky so he's a body that can bang. I did, however, have a problem with Jim's attitude. When we first talked about the other court, he was like "can't you see how big they are? We can't play there", whereas I was hoping we could play against them, cause you only improve by playing against the best. Also, in one of the last games, he was tired and basically just gave up, which contributed to the other team pretty much beating us scoreless.

After bball Bo and their friend Phil had to go to a club, so Jim and I went to eat at Macca's. We had a good chat, mainly about career. It really hit home to me that I'm at a part of my life where I need to start thinking about things such as buying a house and making as much money as possible. A few years ago when I started out with Nom, money really wasn't a factor, I just wanted the experience. But I've got plenty of that now, so maybe it's time to turn that into cash? Also, maybe aiming for a promotion will help you pay off your debts faster??

This got me thinking the other day about "alternate realities" at work and how lucky I was. I found out on Thursday that Heath will be transferred to another department, along with Rat and Kim, in some sort of trial program thing. I was saddened for a bit because I think Heath is the closest thing I have right now to a friend at work, but then I realised: shit, they could've easily sent Alanna instead of Rat, so I'm lucky they didn't. And I appreciate that.

Also, today I was at work and because I was all alone, I decided to pump up Eminem full blast. I walked past Katie's room once or twice going to the kitchen and the thought of checking out her room did cross my mind, but it wasn't strong enough to actually make me want to do it. So after about maybe 30 minutes of good work, I heard a female voice say my name.

I turned around and it was Yoshi. I quickly paused my music, and she asked if I had told security that I was in the building. I said no and I'd go do it. She thanked me. For a moment I felt that she was pretty friendly, but then remembered: 1) she is Katie's friend and will ALWAYS side with her; 2) they have this "shifty" and "sly" thing going on, so despite their small and soft appearance, they are not stupid and try to manipulate their way through things. Like the other day, I saw them talking to Imad in his room. What reason do they have to talk to him?? It seems like they are just sucking up. And the fact that they went there together shows they must've discussed their plans beforehand.

Anyway, back to the point. Although I felt embarassed that she and Katie (who was there but for obvious reasons didn't approach me with Yoshi) had caught me with my music as it had just started playing Buffalo Bill (which has that woman screaming as she is being skinned at the beginning), it could've been a lot worse, like, say, you snooping around her room, not hearing them come in and then have Katie stand at the doorway asking "ummm...what are you doing?" That's one way to get fired. And it'd be a shame too, because you seem to be doing pretty well and most people (the ones that matter anyway) like you.

Oh, and after I ate with Jim, we walked to the train station and bumped into Thai, who asked me if I was going to the movies. I had gotten Brain's message, but didn't really want to go, but now that Thai had asked me in person I felt obliged to go.

I got a bit depressed after parting with Jim, so when I went back to the office to change, I actually started doing some work. Mind you, it was like 9:30pm or something. The only thing that stopped me was a missing document which I had to request. Grrr.
