Anzac Day long weekend
On Friday, I went to the casino, and for some reason, the security guard stopped me and asked for my ID. I showed him my driver's licence via the transparent pouch in my wallet, and after he looked at it I thought that was it so I tried to walk through, but he put his arm out obstructing me and said "step back!".
I felt like I was treated like a criminal and he told me to take my licence out of my wallet. When I gave it to him he had a long hard look at it before finally letting me through.
That really ruined the mood for me. I won $150 and wanted to keep playing but decided to leave with the gain just to spite the friggin' casino.
In the afternoon, I met up with Bob and Michael L for poker. Michael L was busy with his study group for the first hour or so, leaving Bob and I to entertain ourselves with black jack. Later, his flatmate turned up and we thought it was going to be a little awkward how he would leave a complete stranger with us until he finished his study group meeting, but what was more awkward was the fact that his flatmate didn't know how to play poker or blackjack!
I mean, why the hell would you bring someone who didn't know how to play and leave him with complete strangers? Anyway, we taught him how to play and he caught on pretty quickly, although he was a bit weird in that he talked like a complete mathematical nerd and he even wrote down some calculations to try to win the games.
When Michael L finally finished his meeting and turned up, it was only to tell us he had to drive a girl (Fiona) home. We decided to get dinner and organised for the three of us to go while he would drop her home and catch up with us at the pub.
So Michael L's flatmate drove us there and before we even had time to order, Michael L showed up with Fiona, obviously having had a change of plans.
For some fucked up reason, my spaghetti was more expensive than Michael L's, and I even found a piece of hair in it as well. I'm never going back there again.
It was a little awkward at first, but Bob and I both tried to initiate some interesting conversations. If I were to draw an exagerrated comic of Bob at that moment, I reckon I'd draw him as salivating and grovelling towards Fiona. But in reality, I could see him playing with his hair a bit as he talked to her, obviously finding some interest in her.
Maybe it's just my ego speaking, but I felt like I hit it off with her ok. It was probably due to the fact that we were both from Hong Kong. I was careful not to be too funny and not talk to her too much, as I was sure Michael L liked her somewhat and I didn't want anything to happen between us. At one point, she said that her friends said she looked like a TVB celebrity, and then added that she didn't think of herself as pretty. I mean, that is an open point for me right there, with her basically begging for a compliment. But, as I was in restraint mode, I didn't say anything in response.
I must admit, I did check her out a bit while I was ordering drinks at the bar, but only to see whether the way she dressed reflected her as conservative or not. She seemed to be pretty sensible.
After eating, Michael L drove her home and met up with us later for poker. I ended up doing pretty well. Usually I'm a dick and I'll just go all-in in the first round to bluff my way to victory, but this time I decided to play a little more conservative.
On Saturday morning, I went to the courts and did five sets of suicides and push ups, fuelled by my anger at the security guard incident the day before. I went home, then went to pick up my computer from the psycho-religious lady. I wanted to shower and see my doctor, but didn't have enough time as I had to go meet Abi to take him to the courts for training.
I met him at the train station and we caught the bus together to the courts near my place. Not long after, Dunnycan arrived and they both were soon immersed into a deep conversation about World of Warcraft. Dunnycan admitted that if he didn't have a girlfriend, he would be totally addicted to the game, playing it 24-7. When I told him about my gambling addiction before, he said I needed a girlfriend to spend some time with. I think he was right.
About an hour later Fat Pat, Marco and Mike arrived. We ran through some plays and then played some pick up games with a few other guys there. By now my knee was hurting from the earlier training, and I wasn't really into moving.
As we sat around for a bit afterwards, Abi practiced touching the ring. That reminded me of the times when I always used to touch it. There's no way I can do stuff like that now. My knee problem makes me feel so old. I wish I could turn back the clock though. However, I'm just glad that there are some people who have seen me touch the ring before. I just need witnesses to attest to my achievements.
We split after that and I went home for a shower, and received a message from Bob that he wanted to meet up for dinner. Before I met up with him, I went to the casino and lost $100.
I met up with him at the cinemas, and we went to the restaurant where we'd meet Michael L, although he was about 45 minutes late. The first time I spoke to Michael L that night, I thought, from my perspective, that he kinda gave me an intense look. When I saw it I wondered if he felt the same thing that I felt the night earlier- that Fiona had taken a liking to me and not him.
After dinner, we went to check the movie session times, but Michael L decided to go home and study. Bob and I went to the casino, and Shuing said he'd meet us there.
As Michael L had left, Bob asked me why I didn't get Fiona's number as we seemed to hit it off pretty well.
I knew it! It wasn't just my imagination or ego!
I played ignorant and didn't talk about it much, not wanting to stir up anything with Michael L and myself.
I showed Bob my roulette strategies, and won $25 while he was there. It actually took a long time to make that $25, because the ball kept landing on the back up numbers. But at one point, after a while when I had still made no progress nor loss, he said it was a good thing, because it was like playing a game for free. True I suppose.
When Shuing arrived we went to the tv area to watch the Chelsea vs Manchester United match. I like to watch a lot of sports, including soccer, so I wasn't really bored, but my legs were so tired from bball that day, and it was so crowded that there weren't any seats available, that made me feel a bit restless.
At halftime, we returned to the roulette tables, and I won $50. They were both pretty amazed that I was able to win $75 altogether, and I wondered what they would think if they knew my real gambling habits.
I told them to go watch the second half while I went to cash in my chips. When I walked away, I stood near the roulette tables, so tempted to play again, but managed to resist. I didn't want a situation where I placed a bet, lost, then was later asked by them where my $75 went if we decided to go eat or something.
We ended up watching the second half, and I found myself a poker machine seat. I think I saw Gaynor walk past. Damn a lot of people go to the casino.
Shuing drove us both home, and Bob again raised the issue of Fiona, teasing me saying I was hitting on her and stuff. Shuing said Michael L had spoken to him about Fiona, saying he really liked her. Bob said Michael L had said "she was for pleasure", whatever the hell that meant. Shuing added that Fiona had a boyfriend in Queensland. Hmmm...you just never know with girls eh. Guess that monkey swinging from tree to tree saying is true.
This morning, I went to the casino and won $100. I went back home and slept, since I felt really sleep-deprived. I woke up and decided to go to the casino with the main intention of watching the playoffs and betting $100.
When I arrived, they weren't showing any NBA, so I had lunch there and ended up losing $250. The $50 was from my attempt at blackjack.
I came home, and watched some Boston Legal before taking a nap again.
